Accelerating Vehicle to Everything (V2X) Deployment

The TRUST project, backed by a $19.2 million grant, is rolling out Vehicle to Everything (V2X) technology, also known as connected vehicle technology, across a population center of over 7 million people in the Greater Houston area, the City of College Station, and the corridors linking these two metropolitan regions.
The project features 15 use cases aimed at improving safety and mobility, positioning Texas as a leader in advancing the next generation of technologies that enhance transportation safety and contribute to the goal of zero fatalities.
The Transforming Roads Unleashing Smart Technologies (TRUST) project is a federally funded initiative led by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), City of Houston, City of College Station, Missouri City, Fort Bend County, and an international consortium of private sector companies.
The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) selected Texas as one of three projects to receive funding through the $60 million V2X Accelerator Program, alongside deployments in Utah and Arizona. The V2X Accelerator Program aims to accelerate the adoption and deployment of V2X technology nationwide. This technology can support the Safe System Approach outlined in the USDOT’s National Roadway Safety Strategy, which aims to address the urgent issue of roadway fatalities.

Our Vision
To create the nation’s most advanced, connected, and resilient transportation system—where every trip is safer, smarter, and more efficient.
Our Mission
Through large-scale, real-world V2X deployments, we will integrate cutting-edge technologies across diverse environments, deliver measurable safety and mobility benefits, and set the standard for how connected systems transform transportation.
Our Approach
The TRUST project aims to deploy V2X technology in a mega-region of Texas, encompassing the City of Houston, Bryan/College Station, and connecting routes. The deployment area will enhance existing infrastructure and install new roadside equipment to enable the exchange of safety messages and V2X communications, across 15 different use cases.
Our Partners
Our partners bring proven deployment expertise across all aspects of the transportation communications, infrastructure, and vehicle arenas.
Their experience spans traveler information systems, signal priority, flood warning, vehicle platooning, vulnerable road user protection, connected and autonomous vehicles, rail, policy, and nationwide leadership in communications.
Partners also have internationally recognized expertise in evaluating the environmental and climate impacts of transportation.
